Ventricular Arrhythmia and Stokes - Adams Syndrome
نویسنده
چکیده
An unusual case of ventricular arrhythmia is reported with electrocardiograms showing complete attacks of ventricular tachycardia, ventricular flutter and ventricular fibrillation. The etiology is unknown. Large doses of quinidine, to the point of toxicity, seemed to halt the arrhythmia but did not prevent its recurrence. Ephedrine was given with resulting immediate improvement and no recurrence of the arrhythmia. It is suggested that ephedrine may be of value in treating StokesAdams attacks due to ventricular arrhythmia in which there is no heart block but an underlying bradyeardia.

Using strictly defined criteria of significant arrhythmias, long term electrocardiographic recording has been evaluated for confirmation of arrhythmias as the cause of cerebral symptoms in 81 patients with suspected Adams-Stokes syndrome. Extension of long term electrocardiographic recording for more than 24 hours gives marginal additional information at a high cost. Among 43 patients monitored...

In this paper are presented recent experiences with eight patients in whom tachyeardias were unresponsive to drug therapy and were terminated by external electric countershock, usually unider general an...
